Was a few weeks ago when I last fed a little Street Fighter IV related news and insight. Going to use this brief moment of clarity to say some quick stuff about Street Fighter IV, now that I own it. Think of it as a taster until I can find some time/cells to write up something better.

Street Fighter IV is very very good.

When taking time to sit down with the game I usually just fire up Arcade mode on the hard difficulty setting. However, there’s a function that allows people to join your game at any point (like in the Arcades, remember?) and challenge you.

This can of course be turned off. I’ve specified for my game to ONLY allow people to challenge me to ranked matches – rendering every interval a tense standoff.

You barely get to even dent Arcade mode before you’re challenged (and challenged again, and again). This is good, as if you’re serious about playing then each match serves as a different encounter, and provides a good learning experience.

There is a lot of fools online though. By fools I obviously mean “normal” people.

Allow me to summarise how the majority of matches unfold:

– Player immediately picks Ken (or rebelliously waits for me to pick first, then picks Ken anyway).

– The match begins, player throws a lot of fireballs (nothing wrong with that).

– I wait.

– Player gets frustrated and moves forward.

– Me, being Balrog/Sagat/FeiLong/Ryu, batters them.

– Player panicks: Jumps towards me with hard kick landing into crouching hard kick

– I discipline the challenger for doing this

– He spams Ken’s fire dragon punch.

– I block, wait for him to land, throw him.

– He loses, feeling like a twat for not being patient or playing sparingly.

Of course you may think I’m a nerdy prick, but that’s just because you’d lose..

And i’d beat you as Dan.

The funny thing is that I’m really not very good. I just use my brain a little. Most people playing online just run at you and then get surprised when they’ve been decked. I’m quite interested in what the real pros are like, as it’s like a game of intense strategy for those people.

I’ll try post more on it in the future. Unfortunately I’ve been busy lately and I don’t know when it’ll end (hopefully never).

Until then, I’ll only be getting stronger.. !

Here, something to watch:

Oh yeah, and Killzone 2 is out on the PS3. It’s good, the graphics are brilliant. Just can’t stop playing Street Fighter IV.
