The long overdue video for Kingdoms’ Bankhead finally surfaced. After months of this record being out Kelala has now acquired a multitude of global fans. Revisiting Kingdoms production on this is a reminder of his faultless prowess, however it underrated the rest of the records on “Vertical XL” which are in their own right showcase his craftmanship.

As a producer Kingdom is probably the most accomplished amongst his Fade to Mind cohorts with seemingly faultless and breathy offerings. Coming back to the matter at hand of this music video, let me first say the wonderful Kelela got me from the get-go.

Disclaimer done!

This video filled with multi-layered textures is super underwhelming. Yes it beautiful and the cinematography is epic, however it’s boring. I would much rather have watch Kelela in a performance piece for it’s entirety. Thats not to say it isn’t good, because it’s good. It’s just doesn’t encapsulate the magic that “Bankhead” brings.

Ultimately it would have been a tall order for anyone to deliver on the hype, so credit is given where credit is due to Jude MC and the people of Capture This NYC. It’s just lacking in sprinkles of glitter and fairydust. The masses will still like it, True! But it’s not in the first Love category the song is pushing.

You know? it’s not “That feeling that you hold unto for fear of never having it again”. No it’s not that. Maybe I missed the point.
