Remember this remix in the summer that sounded like a man having a dubby good seizure whilst playing the accordion?

Yep, that was none other than a Boog-A-Loo Crew, from a DJ and production duo straight out of London who are coming up faster on the wobbly bass scene than a 13 year old dropping ten smacky pills at a trance rave. They’ve already got one or two of their feet in the door with a cushty Trouble Vision residency, and are getting quite used to sharing bills with big boy acts like DJ Zinc, Caspa, L-Vis 1990 and Joker.

I caught up with them to chat about their sound, Lucozade tablets and of course, fresh garms….

What is the Boog-A-Loo Crew all about?
We are Tom & Matt from South London.  We like playing Hip Hop, Dubstep, Garage, House, UK Funky and everything in between. When we produce, we usually take influences from songs we are dropping in our sets and what we are into at that moment. One day we’ll be in the mood to make a Dubstep track and then the next day we are on a Tribal House/UK Funky Tip.
How would you describe the sound of the tracks you produce?
Like a mouse pissing on cotton wool.
Do you have any influences or does anybody or anything inspire what you do?
I’d have to say a beat can be influenced by the amount of Red Bull, Tangtastic Haribo and Lucozade tablets taken. But also the time of day it is made. Some of our best tunes have come together in the studio at around 4:15am. Producers that influence us: High Contrast, J Dilla, Fake Blood, Solo,  Floating Points, Al Green, EL-B, DJ Zinc, Daft Punk to name but a few. DJ’s: Oneman, Giles Peterson, Tomb Crew, Solo, Brackles, Flying Lotus and many more.
Do you feel there a particularly strong music scene in London at the moment (e.g. everyone going mad for Dubstep/funky/D&B) or is it just a free for all/eclectic mix?
It’s constantly changing. One minute you think all the melodies in the world have been written then a mad tune like Pon De Floor comes out. I think London and the UK has always been pushing the boundaries of electronic music, that’s why we love playing and living in London.
How does it feel to have a residency at Trouble Vision? Tell us a bit more about the vibe of the night/bookings/crowd.
It’s a great night and we are glad to be part of it.  The TV team are always on point with the artists and DJ’s they get down and it’s no surprise every event has been a massive success with a great crowd. Plus being a resident means we get to play on Corsica Studio’s amazing Funktion One system on a regular, which is sick.
Do you prefer the experience of DJing or producing?
Tom: DJing
Matt: Both have their ups and downs! But I’d have to say, you can’t beat the rush of playing your own music out in front of a packed crowd and seeing how they react. That’s what makes producing worthwhile for me I think.
Any exciting collaborations, remixes or new material in the pipeline?
Remixing Drop The Lime at the moment and a few tracks by mates. Check the Myspace for updates. Need to mention Dark Sky and Tiger Flight, keep an ear out for tunes from these lot.
Long running debate:  MC’s enhance a DJ set or just plain sabotage it? Who is your favourite MC?
We have never had an MC during our sets. We usually disagree with the idea, but there are definitely some sick MCs out there who enhance sets like Illaman, ASBO, Sgt Pokes, Crazy D and Tippa.
Everybody knows DJs have gotta look good, it’s not even a shallow ting… what sort of clothing are you feeling at the moment?
Feeling what Trainer Spotter, Stussy and Obey are doing right now.
You can catch Boog-A-Loo on the regs at their London residency Trouble Vision, Corsica Studios (Elephant & Castle). For other dates check  www.myspace.com/boogaloocrewuk
