One has to feel that A.L.I.E.N NYC might have missed their opportunity to lock shit down. The black Bart Simpson, Bevis and butthead and Super Mario imagery and design was and still is, however simple something that blew my fucking mind. They were in my eyes the streetwear brand that offered the only substance. Made up of Prince Quan and his super-fly misfits they mixed and matched their range of tees, hats and sweat with other cultures, particularly African, sci-fi and popular culture influences. When people see their “ALien” print logos they ask if I’m a big fan of the movie. The movie is fucking dope, but the movement is doper and getting my hands on their gear was like E.T need to go home. I wrote a premature obituary because everything seem to have been left behind in some sort of online void. I more recently gathered that they probably couldn’t handle the hype they created. Wanting to create something for themselves rather than for others to copy or try to recreate. In that short period of time they spawned a monster which is easily noticeable with music emanating from NYC and the neighbouring regions mirrored in the style that precedes it. Take anyone from Theophilus London or the more Affiliated Melo-X who has been doing the rounds on DWT. How about Ninjasonik, Cerebral Ballzy, Moruf or the NJ NinjaKlan. A.L.I.E.N NYC made their mark and it seems they are back for a second helping. They captured the hearts and minds of many by being before their time and I’m pretty sure their still way way out ahead riding the galaxy as they tend to. Here comes the new KAWABUNGA!
