Lemzly Dale is a Bristol born and bred producer with a sold case of citrus mania. He’s also a rapper, snapper and scribbler and still has time to co-run Sector 7 Sounds with his mate Boofy and upkeep a healthy collection of assorted hats.
Wheres the name Lemzly Dale come from?
Making prank calls and watching too much Wallace and Gromit when I was younger.
Hows the music scene in Bristol? Whats popping right now and the best spots/nights to hit?
Bristol has a great music scene. I think things dried up a little for Bass music after the Dubstep years, especially in terms of good club nights… but it feels like things are picking up again. I’m a fan of fairly small clubs, the Crofters Rights is cool, there’s a night there on the first Wednesday of every month called Who??Cares, which is always a vibes. Timbuk2 still does it for me if the right people are playing. I’ve seen a lot of good Grime nights popping up recently, Eskimo Dance is coming to Bristol on the 11th, should be mad!
What other artists influence your sound? Or get you excited about music / production?
I love beats with orchestral elements, so people like Swifta and Davinche always inspire me. At the moment I’ve really been getting into R&G and sampling in Grime, it’s something I’ve done a lot of with my Hip-Hop stuff, so it’s nice to be able to bring the two styles together. Gundam, Milktray and Invader Spade are definitely doing it for me right now.
If you could work with any vocalist out there dead or alive…how would you choose?
Whats your status drink of choice?
If money was no object, what would be your dream outfit for a set?
Sector 7 two-piece and the official Lemz hat.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Plies… “Sweet Pwussy Satday”
What did you have for tea last night?
Chips and garlic mayo.
Any famous last words?
I’ve got a couple of releases lined up, both on Bristol-based labels. The next step for me is to start working on tunes with MCs, and start playing out regularly. Oh, and look out for S7S003… it is coming. *throws a L up*
